Juan Andrés Maya

A Genius dancer like Juan Andrés, could not belong to any other family but the Flemish dynasty of the Maya. Art, courage, joy, dance and deepness with a peculiar style shown in all and each of his movements on the stage. Juan Andrés Heredia Maya, was born the 6 of January of 1972 in the heart of the gypsy borough of Sacromonte. With the family background, was natural start to dance at 3 in La Cueva del Rocio, a place property of his parents, where he became the main attraction for visitors of that popular place of Granada. He was just 14 when he went to the El Cairo with the Jarapo troupe.

Debuted in the Alhambra theater with the “Cautivo” (captive) with Manolete, La Hierbabuena and Beatriz Martín. Performed in El Amor Brujo (Bewitched Love) as main character. Also performed in the Lincoln Center of New York and made a tour trough Holland and Japan. In September of that year, he presented his new work Raices (Roots).

Two years later he was the bull who faced Antonio Canales in the show Guernica, Directed by Luis Pascual, in which he performed specially invited by Canales. Worked in New York with the Troupe Flamenco Vivo in the show Federico, homage to Garcia Lorca which made stand up all Europe and which also took to the ABC theater, in Nagoya and in Tokyo in Japan.
